Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.2.0 Major Nerfs Sparks Controversy Amongst Players

Grinding Gear Games recently nerfed many high-performing skills, passives, and Uniques, causing Path of Exile 2 to feel significantly slower. Many players have noted how regular mobs in the game take way too long to kill while their characters have become too fragile even in Act 1. Here’s a condensed version of the patch notes highlighting every nerf.

Character Changes

These affect all characters regardless of class, affecting universal stats and mechanics.

  • Freeze builds up 48% slower on enemies
  • Presence base radius has been decreased from 6 meters to 4 meters
  • Player-generated objects no longer apply On Kill effects
  • Characters afflicted with Heavy Stun are unable to Block or Evade
  • Duration Endurance, Power, and Frenzy Charges are reduced from 20 to 15 seconds
  • Player Ailment thresholds now only count for 50% of Maximum Life instead of 100% of Maximum Life.

Ascendancy Nerfs

Gemling Legionnaire

● Enhanced Effectives grants 20% fewer attributes

● Implanted Gems now only grant +2 to Skills with either Strength, Dexterity or Intelligence requirements

Invoker

● …and Protect me from Harm now has a 50% Evasion penalty (was 40%)

● Lead me through Grace now provides 1 Spirit every 8 Energy Shield and 20 Evasion Rating on Armor (was 6 Energy Shield and 15 Evasion)

Stormweaver

● Force of Will now grants 1% Effect of Arcane Surge per 25 Maximum Mana (was 15 Maximum Mana)

Skill Gem Nerfs

Grinding Gear Games has made an effort to nerf all the meta builds that popped up before Dawn of the Hunt in an attempt to make build crafting more diverse. However, the many nerfs that hit these skills have significantly made the leveling experience more difficult.

Skill Nerf

Tempest Bell

Requires 10 combo hits to activate and AoE triggers now have an internal cooldown.

Archmage

Damage gained every 100 mana is reduced from 5% to 3%

Grim Feast

Disabled for Patch 0.2.0, and will receive a rework soon.

Herald of Ice

Herald of Ice will no longer proc on kills made by other Herald skills.

Lightning Conduit

Damage scaling on Shock chance is lowered from

100% to 20% damage per 5% Shock.

Arc

Arc no longer gains extra damage when there are still chains remaining.

Barrage

Repeated casts deal 50% less damage. Cooldown scales significantly higher.

Concoction

Casts now cost 5 flask charges instead of 3. Requires both unarmed weapons to cast.

Detonate Dead

Physical damage scaling reduced from 20% of corpse’s max life to 11%

Barrier Invocation

Self-damage no longer builds Energy.

Firestorm

Critical Hit Chance reduced from 14% to 7%

Lightning Rod

Embedded arrows disappear after 6 bursts instead of 14.

Explosive Grenade

Cooldown increased from 3 seconds to 7 seconds

Voltaic Grenade

Cooldown increased from 3 seconds to 6 seconds

Soul Offering

Damage now scales additively instead of multiplicative

Armour Breaker

Armor Reduction reduced by 20%

Hammer of the Gods

Now requires Glory, a resource gained by inflicting Heavy Stun on enemies

Conductivity

Elemental vulnerability reduced from -32% to -25%

Flammability

Elemental vulnerability reduced from -32% to -25%

Hypothermia

Elemental vulnerability reduced from -32% to -25%

Support Gem Changes

Arcane Tempo

Cast Speed bonus reduced from 25% to 20%

Brutality

Physical Damage bonus reduced from 35% to 25%

Burning Inscription

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 110%

Cannibalism

Life on Kill reduced from 4% ro 2%

Capacitor

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 130%

Combo Finisher

Supported Skills lose Combo after 4 seconds instead of 8 seconds

Concentrated Effect

Area Damage bonus reduced from 40% to 30%

Considered Casting

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 115% and damage bonus reduced from 40% to 35%

Crescendo

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 120%

Energy Retention

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 110%

Expanse

Supported skill cooldown increased from 6 seconds to 8 seconds

Exploit Weakness

Damage bonus reduced from 50% to 40%

Feeding Frenzy and Meat Shield

No longer supports minions that cannot be damaged

Fist of War

Cost Multiplier increased from 140% to 150%

Hourglass

Damage bonus reduced from 40% to 30%

Impact Shockwave

AoE radius reduced from 2 meters to 1.8 meters

Impetus

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 115%

Lasting Shock

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 120% and supported skills now have 30% less chance to Shock (was 20%)

Lockdown

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 120%

Longshot

Damage bonus reduced from 35% to 30%

Magnified Effect

Cost Multiplier increased from 120% to 130% and Area of Effect radius bonus reduced from 40% to 30%

Martial Tempo

Attack speed bonus reduced from 30% to 20%

Neural Overload

Cost Multiplier increased from 100% to 120%

Scattershot

Damage reduction penalty to skill increased from 20% to 35%

Shock Siphon

Can no longer be engraved through Gemcutting

Spell Echo

Can no longer support Triggered skills

Strip Away

Damage bonus reduced from 50% to 30% and the Perfect Timing window has been shortened to 35% (previously 25%)

Swift Affliction

Non-ailment Damage over Time bonus reduced from 35% to 30%

Window of Opportunity

Damage bonus reduced from 50% to 30% and the Perfect Timing window has been shortened to by 35% (previously 25%)

Unique Item Changes

Against the Darkness

Gem radius on Passive Tree reduced from Large to Medium. No longer grants 1% health or mana per passive node, instead granting 8 flat health or mana per node.

Astramentis

Minimum amount of attributes given lowered from +80 to +50

Death’s Harp

Critical Damage bonus reduced from 50-70% to 30-40%

Dream Fragments

Maximum mana bonus reduced from 20% to 10%

The Everlasting Gaze

Maximum Mana to Extra Maximum Energy Shield conversion reduced from 20-30% to 4-6%

Hand of Wisdom and Action

20 Intelligence is now required to gain 1 to 10 Lightning Damage while 20 Dexterity is required to get 1% attack speed (was previously 3% attack speed.)

Melting Maelstrom

No longer has the effect “Recover all Mana when Used”

Northpaw

Base Critical Hit Chance reduced from 8% to 7% and Critical Damage Bonus reduced from 20-30% to 10-15%

Pillar of the Caged God

Bonus to Attack Speed and Area of Effect reduced from 2% to 1% per Intelligence and Dexterity

Trenchtimbre

Maximum amount of skill levels gained to minion skills reduced from 3 to 2
