With 5v5 modes, players can switch between the roles of attacker and defender on the fly, making matches more action-packed. While Rematch does well to guide new players, there are gameplay mechanics not revealed to you that will give you an advantage in Rematch. #1: Receiving Mechanic

When a ball is being passed to you in the air, it will likely pass through your character if you don’t receive it. To secure control over a passed ball, press X (Xbox) or Square (Playstation) to tap the ball.

#2: Extra Effort Features

Right next to your stamina is a blue bar that can be used to trigger Extra Effort. This state allows you to move even faster, adds more power to your shots and gives you priority over 50/50 defensive or offensive actions like dribbles and slide tackles. Using this resource wisely will help you secure control over the ball. To trigger this, press LB + LB (Xbox) or L3 (Playstation)

#3: Movement Changes Ball Momentum

When making a shot, your character’s movement will affect its trajectory and velocity. If the ball is in motion, the shot will be more powerful and can even cause it to overshoot. You can use a ball’s momentum to your advantage by giving your kicks more curve and distance to bypass a goalkeeper’s defense.

#4: Sprinting Affects Ball Control

If you hold the sprint button, you usually move faster and consume stamina in the process. However, sprinting can also change the way you control the ball. For example, jogging and using the push ball command will make it move a short distance, but using the sprint and a push ball will cause it to move farther than usual. This can also affect high dribbles, which can be used to throw defenders off guard.

#5: Nimble Dribble Combo

The nimble dribble has a bit of animation lock when executing it, but you can actually chain consecutive nimble dribbles by pressing LT+A (Xbox) / L2 + X (Playstation) just as the animation ends.

#6: Enemy Players Can Be Bodyblocked

While not applicable in real soccer, you can physically block other players from reaching your attackers or defenders by standing in front of them. This will enhance any strategy your team is making and will make defenses much tighter.

Since Rematch has no out-of-bounds zones, you can juggle the ball against any wall without consequence, and this can lead to some effective offensive plays. Getting a wall bounce to pass the ball to your teammates creates a larger window for your team to score a goal

#8: Half Charge Shooting

Most players tend to make the shot at full charge, making curved shots more predictable. However, shots with less charge and more altitude have tighter curves, which can catch goalkeepers by surprise. For trick shots, try aiming above the upper left or upper right corner of the goal and shoot at half charge.

#9: Turn Canceling

Using the defense stance, it is possible to bypass the sudden stop animation when sprinting in a different direction while defending. While sprinting, press LT + A (Xbox) / L1 + X (Playstation) when you’re about to change direction to animation cancel the stop and maintain your sprint momentum. This will consume more stamina, so use this wisely in defense.

#10: Special Power Shots

While most shots are usually made when you have control over the ball, there are special animations that play when you make a shot while the ball is being passed to you. To pull these off, use any pass move like the Rainbow Kick or the Overhead Flick, then as the ball is moving away, use Extra Effort to run towards the ball, then shoot while it’s bouncing for a powerful and flashy shot.
