Cult-favorite psychological adventure game, Sublustrum, is officially returning. Developer Phantomery Interactive has slated the remake for release on PC and consoles in 2026.
Sublustrum was initially released in 2008 and known as Outcry in some regions. The original game was an atmospheric, often creepy click-and-point adventure that captivated players with its surreal dreamscapes and philosophical puzzles.
The upcoming 2026 remake is a complete reimagining built in Unreal Engine 5. Phantomery Interactive promises an expanded, enhanced, and fully explorable 3D experience.
Sublustrum’s Story: Investigating ‘The Shimmering World
Sublustrum’s story follows an unnamed writer who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his scientist brother after being called by him to see his research, only to find him missing and a cryptic warning about a strange machine in his house upon arrival.
The action-adventure’s Steam page explains that the protagonist soon “slips into a liminal space between waking and dreaming. Quickly, his investigation becomes a surreal journey into the depths of his own subconscious,” into what his brother calls “The Shimmering World.”
Reimagined Gameplay: Unreal Engine 5 and Photorealistic Visuals
While the original is a point-and-click narrative and puzzle-driven adventure, Sublustrum features fully explorable 3D photorealistic environments with expanded, reimagined, and audio-driven puzzles that “present unusual challenges and reward associative, lateral thinking.”
Developer Phantomery Interactive has announced the expanded remake will launch for PC and consoles in 2026. The original was only available for PC.

Phantomery Interactive, previously The Adventure Company, is the original developer of the 2008 game, giving the team a great opportunity to introduce the Sublustrum remake to a new generation of players.
