Sometimes we come across a complicated gadget geocache and wonder what chain of events led the cache owner to create such a unique design…

This simple-yet-devious gadget cache challenges geocachers to use the provided materials to create their own tool to retrieve the key and open the geocache.

As geocachers approach GZ, they will immediately spot the cache, a colorful birdhouse attached to a tree. Bright colors are the cache owner, Arlingtontrains7’s, signature design. But don’t let the box fool you; there’s nothing obvious about the rest of the puzzle.

A first inspection of the birdhouse might raise more questions than answers. The small hole in the front is blocked to prevent feathered friends from taking up residence inside. Instead, the top of the box lifts open on hinges. If you think the puzzle stops here, think again! Inside is another door, but it’s locked. But wait, there’s a small hole in the locked compartment. Too small for a hand, too deep for tweezers, but, like all of Arlingtontrains7’s, there must be a reason it exists.

A second, more thorough look reveals yet another door on the bottom of the box. The key must be in here, right? Nope! Instead, there is a puzzling assortment of small metal objects.

Where to begin? One step (or link) at a time, obviously! Follow the cache page’s clues to assemble the necessary TOTT and retrieve the key.

Now all the pieces are coming together! Key in hand, open the final compartment to access the logbook and the hard-earned SWAG inside!
