Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds is a source for several needed materials for crafting and Guild Points. While this system hasn’t changed significantly, many players have had trouble catching aquatic lifeforms. It seems that hunters missed one crucial step in fishing: becoming successful fishermen.

Fish Properly By Moving the Bait

Most Hunters have been used to patiently waiting for fish to bite their baits before reeling them in. However, if you didn’t do the fishing tutorial, you won’t know this no longer works in Monster Hunter Wilds. Now, you’ll have to move your bait while in the water to make it attractive to fish instead of waiting for one to bite. 

You must cast the bait past the fish you want to catch and slowly reel in the lure. The bait should pass before the creature to make it notice the line. Doing this will encourage the fish to bite the lure. Well, mainly if you use the right bait. 

How to Properly Reel in Big Fish

Smaller fish can quickly be reeled in by just typically pulling the line, but bigger ones require more effort. Catching a large creature will cause you to do a short mini-game because they’ll try and escape. You’ll need to tire out the fish before you can slowly reel it in, and to do this, you’ll have to pull the rod in the opposite direction that the catch is swimming towards. Once the rod relaxes and the fish tires, you can reel it in as you usually do, but beware, the tired-out fish can regain its energy and start resisting again. If this happens, then you’ll have to tire it out again.

Use the Right Baits

There are several baits for players to use in Monster Hunter Wilds. You’ll need to learn when to use specific lures for certain fish. Here are all the baits available in Wilds:

• Common Wood Minnow
• Golden Bughead
• Emerald Jitterbait
• Tuff Joint Bait
• Duster Rig
• Tentacle Jig

Note: You can catch any fish with any bait, but if you’re not using their preferred ones, it may take them a long time to notice the lure.
