Halo: Combat Evolved was the first huge chapter in Microsoft’s Sci-Fi FPS series. A title officially released in 2001 that changed the video game landscape for first-person shooters. Cementing itself as the flagship title for the Original Xbox, accompanying it at launch.

It quickly became the series associated with Microsoft’s gaming division. Over nearly 20 years, it has seen over 6 billion units sold across its various sequels and spin-offs. A major revival happened in 2021 with the launch of Halo Infinite. The sixth chapter, coming over 6 years after Halo 5, saw the return of the beloved Master Chief.

Celebrating Halo’s 25th Anniversary with Campaign Evolved

Following the recent rumors of the Remake of the first Halo, as well as the official confirmation of a new title in development, Microsoft is breaking its silence. They’ve just announced a surprise on 25 October 2025: Halo: Campaign Evolved. This is the Remake of the beloved Combat Evolved that kicked off the adventures of the famous Master Chief.

They revealed it all with the official video, taking us back to the Ringworld. With commentary from the Halo Studios team, who talked about the challenges of bringing back the classic experience. Improving the visuals, but also creating an improved experience thanks to the series’ evolution over the various chapters. The Remake is coming in 2026 to celebrate Halo’s 25th Anniversary.

The Halo Remake is Coming to PS5 Too

Campaign Evolved will therefore be built on Unreal Engine 5. With a huge graphical leap and the use of Lumen. They also confirmed a more cinematic rework of the cutscenes. Not to mention remastered audio complete with new voice acting. Of course, the unmistakable voice of Stephen Arthur Downes, behind Master Chief, is back.

But among the most incredible news, we also have confirmation of the platforms. It will debut not only on Xbox Series X/S and PC, but it’s even launching on PlayStation 5. Long-time fans and new players will be able to tackle the campaign in two-player local co-op, as well as online with up to 4 players on their preferred platform thanks to crossplay.
