Discover a Geocache of the Week, Wellingtonia (GCXGEX), that blends natural history and adventure on the Wisdom Trail. With over 1,400 Favorite points, this cache highlights towering sequoias far from their natural habitat.

In the mid 1800s, news reached Europe of a “miracle tree” discovered in America. The giant sequoias of the California Sierra Nevada were described as towering trees, reaching heights of around 100 meters (328 feet), trunk circumferences of over 30 meters (98 feet), and astonishing ages up to 3,000 years. The cache invites hikers to step into this awe-inspiring history and imagine the forests that once spanned continents.

The trail to the geocache is open year-round!

After parking at the posted coordinates, make your way to the trail and through the woods to the geocache. You know you’re going in the right direction when redwood trees flank the walk. Keep walking north to find the geocache.

Along the way, take in the stunning scenery and discover gigantic trees in various shades of green, as well as moss-covered tree stumps from fallen trees.

Upon reaching the final coordinates, set your GPS aside. Begin searching for the geocache you might find; maybe beneath a log or tucked among tree roots. In no time, the geocache will be in your hands, ready for you to sign the logbook.
